Doreen Virtue (born April 29, 1958) is a Californian author and alleged angel medium who sells courses and workshops on angels, chakras, crystal and indigo children and other New Age topics. She is a self-professed "spiritual doctor of psychology and a fourth generation metaphysician".[1]

Biography

Doreen Virtue claims to hold a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from California Coast University, which was not accredited when she attended it, but was regarded a diploma mill. (CCU[2] was accredited in 2005 and offers online courses, but may not do Ph.D. programs.[3]) She claims to have worked in two psychiatric facilities, one in Tennessee, the other in Bay Area, San Francisco. Both closed down years ago which makes it difficult to evaluate these claims.[4]

During her childhood, Virtue claimed to see deceased persons, and was allegedly unable to tell them apart from living persons. She meanwhile claims the ability to perceive the guardian angels of every person on earth (even via telephone).[5]

Angel Therapy Practitioner

Angel Therapy Practitioner is a registered trademark held by Doreen Virtue. To become a certified practitioner (or a Certified Spiritual Counselor), it is sufficient to take a four-day course against payment of US$ 1,900.[6] Alternatively, customers can purchase a DVD for US$ 1,000 and will receive the certificate after returning the test included and signing the Licensing Agreement.[7] This certificate can also be bought from her son Charles Virtue who follows in her footsteps.

Indigo Children

Apart from angel visitations, Virtue also frequently speaks about Indigo Children whom she describes as a leap in human evolution:[8]

  • To me these children are the answers to the prayers we all have for peace
  • They're vigilant about cleaning the earth of social ills and corruption, and increasing integrity
  • Other generations tried, but then they became apathetic. This generation won't, unless we drug them into submission with Ritalin.

In her opinion, indigo children were often wrongly diagnosed with ADHS. Instead of promoting their particular gifts they were treated inappropriately with Ritalin.[9]

Bibliography

Her books are published by Hay House who have specialized in New Age literature. She also has her own radio show and conducts workshops all over the world.[10]

Her "New Age" card deck Messages From Your Angels was sold more than 700,000 times.[11]
