- A diagnostiqué de façon inappropriée le patient atteint de la maladie de Lyme ;
- A commencé de façon inappropriée à injecter par voie intramusculaire au patient des antibiotiques pour la maladie de Lyme ;
- A traité de façon inappropriée le patient par des injections d'antibiotiques hebdomadaires puis bihebdomadaires pour la maladie de Lyme sur une période d'environ 30 semaines, mais a omis de faire des recherches ou d'envisager la possibilité que le patient ait le cancer en raison de son âge et des antécédents médicaux ;
- A omis d'obtenir le consentement éclairé du patient pour l'antibiothérapie expérimentale, nouvelle ou non éprouvée de mars 2012 à janvier 2013 ;
- A tenu des dossiers [médicaux] pour le patient médiocres et, ce faisant, contrevenait aux règlements régissant la tenue de dossiers médicaux pour les médecins praticiens.
Le patient n'était pas atteint de la maladie de Lyme et le Dr Mayne a continué de maintenir à l'audience qu'il l'était. Le Dr Mayne a contesté la plupart des allégations mais a fait quelques aveux qu'il a cherché à justifier.[1]

Failed to obtain informed consent from the patient for the experimental, novel or unproven antibiotic therapy from March 2012 to January 2013;
Maintained poor records for the patient and in doing so contravened the regulations governing medical record keeping for medical practitioners.
The patient did not have Lyme disease and Dr Mayne continued to maintain at the hearing that he did. Dr Mayne disputed most of the allegations but made some admissions which he sought to justify.
Decision
On 1 May 2017, the Professional Standards Committee found all allegations against Dr Mayne proved and that the conduct amounted to unsatisfactory professional conduct. The Committee reprimanded Dr Mayne. As Dr Mayne is not currently a registered medical practitioner, the Committee ordered that should he return to the register, he must:
Practice in an accredited group general practice;
Not to advice, diagnose or treat patients who he believes to have or may have Lyme disease or similar tick-borne disease;
Practice under supervision;
Undergo an audit of his medical practice;
Complete courses in prescribing medications and record keeping.
