Steven Emerson (* 1947) is an American journalist and frequently called a pundit on terrorism. He is CEO of "The investigative Project".

Emerson rose to international attention when, in an interview for Fox News, he stated that the town of Birmingham, England was a no-go area for non-Muslims: He explained he had asked police to take him to Muslim populated areas of the city which, according to Emerson, police refused as they allegedly did not dare to enter these area themselves.[1] During the interview, Emerson reported alleged no-go zones all over Europe in which Muslims were in complete control and specified the entire city of Birmingham was a no-go area for non-Muslims, and a religious police were patroling the streets of some London areas, beating anyone not in obeyance of the Muslim dress code, albeit not naming any particular areas. Birmingham, according to Emerson, was only one of European cities "where sharia courts were set up, where Muslim density is very intense, where the police don't go in, and where it's basically a separate country almost, a country within a country."[2]

These and other ridiculous statements had the British Conservative PM, David Cameron, characterise him a complete idiot.[3] Although Birmingham does have a considerable migrant population, 57.9% identified as "white" in the 2011 census, with another 26.6% identified as Asian and some 21% declared to be of Muslim faith, with about 49% identifying as of Christian belief.[4][5]

Emerson later apologized on his website www.steveemerson.com and explained he had relied on disputable sources (aka himself), and donated a few hundred dollars to children's hospitals in Birmingham.

Emerson has a record of producing ridiculous statements.[6]
