Seit 2015 ist die Rede von einer Studie des Professors für Bauingenieurwesen an der University of Alaska (Fairbanks / UAF), Leroy Hulsey, die angeblich den offiziellen NIST-Bericht wissenschaftlich widerlegt habe und 2017 veröffentlicht werden sollte. Das von Hulsey veröffentlichte Draft-Material wurde von Hulsey auf einer Unterseite der Webseiten der University of Alaska (Fairbanks / UAF) veröffentlicht. Zwei genannte Co-Autoren stammen aus China und sind Doktoranden (andere Themen als 9/11) von Hulsey. Die UAF ist Betreiber der inzwischen abgeschalteten Ionosphärenforschungsanlage [[HAARP]], zu der Verschwörungstheorien kursieren. Die von Hulsey veröffentlichten Daten liessen sich zwar trotz seiner Grösse downloaden, das Auslesen der Dateien erwies sich jedoch als unmöglich da bei der Datenkompression Fehler gemacht wurden. Es kursieren allerdings inzwischen korrigierte Versionen der Daten.
