Die erstaunlichsten verbreiteten Verschwörungstheorien beziehen sich auf angebliche Unterdrückungsmassnahmen verschiedenster Kreise gegen Erfinder aus dem "alternativen" Energiebereich, ohne dass dabei jedoch konkrete Angaben gemacht werden. Um das Thema scheint sich insbesondere NEC-Mitglied Gary Vesperman zu kümmern.
